Carpentry & Joinery
At Barber & Company, we provide services for all aspects of carpentry and joinery. Our main area of expertise is in the restoration of historical and listed timber framed properties, and the production of fitted furniture perfectly designed to suit your historic property.

Timber frame repair:
One of the more common projects we undertake is the repair and replacement of the sole plate of a timber framed building. This is quite often the first part of an historical timber framed building that will rot and require attention. This can be quite an invasive repair as the sole plate is an extremely important part of your timber framed property.

Sash window repair:
Sash windows have been around for hundreds of years, its a design that is both simple, yet beautiful. However, like anything, if not maintained things can deteriorate. It is a very rare occurrence that a sash window isn't salvageable, we've repaired many, many windows that others have said aren't saveable. As part of repairing your sash windows, we also fully service them. This will include the replacement of the cords, replacement of the pulleys, we weigh the sashes to ensure the weights are correct and evenly balanced.
With regards to the redecoration of a sash window, we will remove paint back to timber, to allow correct operation and correct decorating to take place. Remember, failing to prepare is preparing to fail!
New Oak Framed extensions, Buildings, and Garden structures:
As well as the restoration and repair of traditional timber framed buildings, we provide new oak structures, such as garages, cart lodges, oak framed extensions and garden rooms, bespoke oak framed garden structures such as folly's and pergolas, boat houses, and porches.

If it involves an oak framed project, we can provide it, we have many, many years of traditional framing experience, which allows us to perform the near impossible with timber frames.

Pre lime plastering preparation:
As part of our vast spectrum of services, we do all our own prep work before lime plastering can take place. We do all our own fitting of Laths (both riven and sawn) the fitting of savolit board, cork board and Steico/Pavatherm. These are all different methods of providing a background for lime plaster to be adhered to. For more information on our lime plastering and rendering, please view our lime plaster page.
